West Chelsea Artists Open Studios will kick-off the spring West Chelsea Arts district 2012 season May 11 - 13, 2012.

West Chelsea artists based in the heart of the West Chelsea Arts district will open their art studio's doors to the public on Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 13th, from 12:00. - 6:00 p.m.

This is a free self-guided tour of art studios located in the West Chelsea Arts district. The West Chelsea Arts Building, 508-526 West 26th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues is the starting point with more than 50 artists open studios. There are more than 10 buildings located in the West Chelsea Arts district with artists’ open studios.

The West Chelsea Artists Open Studios was created by artists for artists to raise awareness of the multitude of studios scattered among the galleries of Chelsea. The West Chelsea Artists open studios event allows local artists the opportunity to open their studio doors to show their artwork; and to provide the public with the opportunity to interact with the artists, view their work and purchase artwork.

The West Chelsea Arts district is considered one of the art centers of the world, Art lovers, collectors, artists and public are given the opportunity to access a multitude of artists, styles, and mediums and see first hand the creative spaces generally only open by appointment.

Visitors can preview participating artists via the web www.westchelseaartists.com to create a self-guided art tour. This open format encourages dialogue between artists and enthusiasts allowing visitors to gain first hand knowledge about the creative process.

Collectors have the ability to purchase works directly from the artists’ studio inventory, giving them the opportunity to be the first to discover new talent before it makes its way to the gallery walls.

Made in Medway: Exploring Medway’s Past Through Contemporary Art will run from Saturday, April 7 through Friday, June 8, 2012.

For the fourth installment of JP to me, this assignment will require you to explore and uncover unseen facets of Jamaica Plain. JP is a funky, diverse and green neighborhood nestled in the historic city of Boston Massachusetts. It has a pulse and rhythm all its own, rich in culture, community events, and the arts. Your challenge as a participating artist is to find that special something seen only by you embodying the spirit of Jamaica Plain through 2D (painting, photography, graphic or assemblage) or 3D (sculpture).

This assignment will require you to focus on the environment that surrounds you at any given moment whether it vast or minute. Space is a boundless, three-dimensional extent in which objects and events occur and have relative position and direction. Your challenge as a participating artist is to capture that space through the lens of your camera. You have the option to use photo-editing software to enhance the image as you deem necessary.

The Roslindale Open Studios is an exciting weekend event offering artists and the public a chance to connect with each other in a comfortable community setting. Local artists open the doors to their workplaces and homes; businesses and restaurants host shows and events; and we welcome out-of-town artists at a large Group Show in Roslindale Village.

Assignment
This assignment will focus on the use of primary color. Popular among artists are the traditional red, yellow and blue and in the age of print media, cyan, magenta and yellow are used among printers. Your challenge as a participating artist is to choose your subject matter and create a final work that predominately uses one the sets of primary colors noted above in 2D (painting, photography, graphic or assemblage).

Assignment
This assignment will require you to explore the art of Portrait Photography, in which a face and expression is predominant in a composed image of a person in a still position. Your challenge as a participating artist is to use your camera and capture a photo that displays the likeness and personality of the subject (human or non-human). You have the option to use photo editing software to enhance the image as you deem necessary. They say a face can tell a thousand words, so go ahead and show us your story!

JP to me is an annual themed group arts exhibition showcasing the creativity and talent of local Jamaica Plain artists inspired by the rich and diverse place that surrounds us. Jamaica Plain is a funky fresh neighborhood in the great city of Boston Massachusetts.

“JP to Me 2011… defined by light” is a themed exhibit showcasing 40 artists with ties to Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.

Each participant has been given definitions of the word light.

The challenge: to interpret their vision of Jamaica Plain as “defined by light.”

The Roslindale Open Studios is an exciting weekend event offering artists and the public a chance to connect with each other in a comfortable community setting. JP to me 2010 from emeralds to jewels is a themed exhibit showcasing the work of 40 local artists and writers.

The exhibit will be shown in the Parker Room at the Footlight Club, 7A Eliot Street, Jamaica Plain from January 29 – February 13, 2010.

Each participant has been assigned one of five emeralds:
Franklin Park, Arnold Arboretum, Forest Hills (including the
cemetery), Southwest Corridor, Jamaica Pond

They will express themselves through one original 2-D or 3-D
piece or writing. The theme is to discover a “jewel” within your district. A
jewel can be anything: a place, a feeling, a happening, etc.

As the organizer, I am excited to present the second annual showing of JP to me!

(ahts): The Boston Arts Festival features the best of the Boston Arts Scene- both visual and performance. Started in 2003 as a single afternoon event, the festival has expanded into a 3-day celebration incorporating a diverse performing arts program and a specially built artists’ village.

Based in the idyllic Christopher Columbus Park on Boston’s waterfront, the festivities glisten in perfect symmetry with the parks surroundings perfect for hosting also family friendly activities.

The festival features over 60 juried artists from Boston and a performance program on 2 stages showcasing Boston’s best performing arts groups and performers.

Previous participants in the festival include Boston Ballet, Blue Man Group, Everyday Visuals, Zili Misik, Opera Boston, Aine Minogue, OrigiNation, Boston Pops, Bleu and Boston Lyric Opera.

the SoWa Art Walk is held every spring in the SoWa (South of Washington Street) neighborhood in boston’s south end. a former mill building district where pianos, canned goods, shoes and other merchandise were made in the 19th century, the district has been home to artists’ studios carved out of the old factories for the last fifty years. today, the artists have been joined by art galleries, creative businesses, cutting edge restaurants and the recent boom in residential loft buildings.

the SoWa Art Walk takes place in late may each year and is a weekend-long standing invitation to visit the artists in their studios. this year, the SoWa Art Walk will occur on saturday and sunday may 16-17, 2009 from 11:00am to 6:00pm. creative stores, cafes, boutiques and some of the city’s finest restaurants take part in the SoWa Art Walk by opening their doors all weekend, hosting artists who display on their walls and offering special event discounts. the SoWa open market, an open-air venue for artists, craftsmen, collectioners, farmstands and other vendors makes its seasonal debut each year in tandem with the SoWa Art Walk. www.southendopenmarket.com

Art auction to benefit the Mather Elementary School, a Boston Public School educating nearly 600 students.

IIDA New England is pleased to present Art Uncorked 2009, a charity event showcasing the talents of the local design community and great wine and food, all while supporting a worthy case.

This event will benifit Raw Art, a non profit youth arts organization located in Lynn, MA. the auction will take place at the Boston Art Showroom located at 23 drydock avenue on boston's waterfront.

A public art exhibit entitled "JP to Me…..eleven artists, eleven takes" displaying the richness of Jamaica Plain through the work of eleven local artists, will be hosted at the historic
Footlight Club. With subjects spanning architecture, street scenes, nature, and abstract shapes, the artists' visions are as diverse as the neighborhood they derive from.

If home is where the heart is, there's no place like this exhibit to witness the variety of Jamaica Plain.

The contributing artists are Ted Cormier, Robert Festa, Edward Gault, Erik Gehring, Amy Hitchcock, Kristin Mallery, Matt McKee, Kate Moss, Bill Shamlian, Keith Supko, and Lucie Wicker.

The exhibit can be seen on the Friday and Saturday evenings of January 30 and 31, February 6 and 7, and February 13 and 14, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Parker Room of the Footlight Club, located at 7 Eliot Street. A reception will be held on February 7 from 6 to 8 pm.

the aim of Art Uncorked 2007 is to rally our community behind one common cause: supporting vital community groups and organizations in massachusetts. in years past, the IIDA NE’s art auction has been extremely successful in raising funds for local charities, and it is in this vein that Art Uncorked continues. this year’s beneficiary even hits close to home: The massachusetts interior design coalition (MIDC).

patrons of Art Uncorked 2007 will have the opportunity to taste and learn about a variety of wines and complementary foods, all of which will be matched with artwork and crafts donated to the IIDA NE by the design community. In the spirit of the IIDA NE art auction, all artwork—paintings, stained glass, jewelry, photography, etc—will be auctioned off to benefit the MIDC.
